Investigators think that the submarine might hold hints about where Escobar’s missing multi-billion dollar fortune was hidden. After years of searching, one of the notorious drug-smuggling submarines associated with Pablo Escobar has been discovered.

Former CIA agents Doug Laux and Ben Smith reportedly found the submarine off Colombia’s coast (the precise location remains undisclosed) and have been deploying divers in hopes of uncovering Escobar’s rumored $50 billion wealth. Escobar utilized submarines for transporting cocaine from Colombia to Puerto Rico, where it would later be transferred to Miami by speedboat. For years, rumors regarding his elusive $50 billion fortune being concealed within one of these narco-subs have circulated, increasing the significance of this find.

In a video, divers are shown sifting through the ocean floor for evidence. One diver came across a box and some metal scraps, but thus far, no cash has been found.

The CIA agents, who have talked to former associates of Escobar, noted that the submarines operated by the drug lord could carry around 2,000 kilos of cocaine. In the 1980s, using submarines provided an effective means to evade law enforcement detection.

Since Escobar’s death, individuals in Colombia and the United States have been hunting for the rumored $50 billion fortune that he is believed to have hidden throughout his country before he passed away. Laux and Smith have documented their quest in the new television series, Finding Escobar’s Millions. They are confident that they are the right people to locate the cash.

“My job in the agency involved finding individuals – tracking down bad guys,” Laux stated. “In a sense, this situation is quite similar; if there’s something someone wants to keep under wraps and in the shadows, that’s where Ben and I excel at uncovering it.”

The submarine was initially discovered after Laux and Smith located an area where it would commonly surface to load drugs. After verifying the site with former employees, they sent divers down and found the sunken vessel. Although the submarine remains in its original resting place, the agents believe it was recently revealed when strong storms shifted the sand on the seafloor.
